88th Leicester enjoy a week of activities at Blackwell Adventure

9 August 2013

MG -130808-8311During the first week of August the 88th Leicester Scout Troop went on their Summer Camp to “Blackwell Adventure”, near Bromsgrove.

The 14-year gap between visits made the campsite almost unrecognizable to the leaders that remember the last trip but they found their way to the camping field and got set up.

The last time we camped there was about 14 years ago, and it has certainly changed a lot since then.

We seemed to have picked the quietest week in the whole of the summer, so we had a whole camping field to ourselves for the week! This allowed us to spread out and have a large games area just to ourselves that was well used through the camp.

Activities at Blackwell are really good, we did all kinds from grass sledging to one of the country’s biggest zip lines. We had a campfire with a group of Brownies and learnt a few new songs. Of course no camp would be complete without an appearance from the British weather but thanks to the indoor sports hall the show went on! We also had a lot of very warm sunny days, and so it was no surprise that catapult building ended up as a water fight!

All in all, the Scouts (and Leaders) had a brilliant time, the staff on site were fantastic and just couldn’t do enough for us – they even acted as our personal refuse collectors. The toilet block was always spotless, and there was always very hot water in the showers.

They have a well-stocked shop, and free use of a chest to keep everything cool. They even have a ready-made tented village with bunk beds, electric lights and all cooking equipment provided for those that fancy a bit of lazy camping.

If you are looking for different campsite for your summer camp in 2014, we would certainly recommend Blackwell, and it was most certainly an adventure to be remembered!
